The IT Project Portfolio Management (PPM) project was initiated to implement ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) system for INNIO replacing multiple legacy PPM tools.

Business

INNIO is a leading solutions provider of gas engines, power equipment, a digital platform, and related services for power generation and gas compression at or near the point of use. With their Jenbacher and Waukesha products, INNIO helps to provide communities, industry, and the public access to sustainable, reliable, and economical power.

Challenge

This project began with a market evaluation in February 2021.

Following an RFQ process and Proof of Concept phase, ServiceNow SPM (formally ITBM) was selected as the preferred system to replace the:

  • In-house built “ISO” project reporting system used in IT,
  • Various Excel workbooks used in BU PMOs,
  • DAPTIV system used by the Engineering and Operations BUs.

Solution

ServiceNow's SPM solution was chosen to streamline processes and align with the corporate strategy, eliminating the need for new infrastructure projects due to existing workflows.

It unifies project reporting, replacing multiple platforms, streamlining demand, and project management. Multiple departments with varying PMO maturity levels have adopted this company-wide PPM solution.

Integration with INNIO's ERP involved importing actual data and developing automated project creation, facilitating comprehensive cost analysis and project management while improving overall efficiency and alignment with organizational goals.

The benefit of a single PPM solution within INNIO is significant. Processes of the many PMOs can be aligned and standardized within one solution, boosting project reporting by using the same templates while not losing the ability to support the unique requirements of each department due to the flexibility of the ServiceNow platform. One PPM solution means that every integration can be leveraged by every user in the system.

Having a PPM and Agile solution within a platform already used within the company aligns well with the company strategy to reduce the complexity of the enterprise application landscape.
